New Haven rock staple The Tyler Trudeau Attempt will perform Friday, May 22 at Two Boots, 281 Fairfield Ave., in Bridgeport, Conn. Joining the band will be Hartford-based indie-rockers The Inclined Plane and New Haven-based electro-pop outfit Welcome.
The Tyler Trudeau Attempt has been compared to Elvis Costello, Billy Bragg, The Ramones and Richard Hell. Really it’s just awesome pop music. They can be seen on stages all over the state of Connecticut. They’re fresh from rocking Cafe Nine last week with Death To New England and Chicago popsters Very Truly Yours.
The New Haven Advocate said the following about The Tyler Trudeau Attempt’s EP, In My Despair I Took Up Painting:
[In My Despair, I Took Up Painting is] an EP brimming with social satire, gleeful punk music, enough organ for a prog band and Trudeau’s instantly recognizable whine… The TTA looks back to the roots of punk and finds something immensely energetic, often hilarious and always political. On top of that, it’s catchy as hell.
Hartford popsters, The Inclined Plane, will be fresh from opening for The Pains of Being Pure at Heart — who just might be the hottest band in the world right now — at their April 24 show at Wallingford American Legion. Their lo-fi carousel of catchy hooks and melodic fun is a dizzy joyride spinning on the circle of fifths. Confections of kraut drones and circuit-bent toy instruments sweeten the fuzz! From noisy 60’s psychedelia and harmony rich Brazilian pop, to alt country and experimental folk, a rousing range of ingredients all find their way into The Inclined Plane’s kitchen.
They have self-released three EPs — Gestalt Pump , The Bit Intuit and Nonpareils — each in limited runs in handmade packaging (featuring the artwork of John Tieman) on their own Popular Wallpaper Recordings label. A proper full-length, I Am Pants, is due on April 21.
Welcome is a 3-piece electro-pop band from New Haven. The band says their music is a great soundtrack for eating ice cream, dancing or punching someone mean in the neck.
The New Haven advocate said:
Welcome delivers what we’ve come to expect: indie-pop enthusiasm, buzzy synths, boy-girl vocal harmonies, bursts of processed bass, songs that spill out as a string of melodic passages rather than a tried verse-chorus-verse pattern, schoolyard chants, reflections on awkward childhoods and unlikely adulthoods.
